The PLH-150 from BRK NDT Pen-Type Leeb Hardness Tester is a compact, portable instrument for fast on-site hardness testing of metal workpieces.

Its integrated design combines the impact device and display in one cable-free unit, making it convenient for workshop quality control, laboratory inspection and field testing.

A high-brightness OLED display provides clear readings, while 360° impact direction support allows testing in downward, upward, horizontal and inclined orientations. The built-in rechargeable lithium battery supports USB charging for convenient portable use.

Using the Leeb rebound method, the PLH-150 measures hardness by evaluating the impact body’s rebound from the test surface. Results can be displayed in HL, HB, HV, HRA, HRB, HRC and HS, with tensile strength conversion available where applicable to the selected material.

  • Integrated pen-type design: Combines the impact device and measuring unit without an external probe cable.
  • 360° impact direction: Accommodates different workpiece orientations.
  • High-brightness OLED display: Provides a clear numerical readout.
  • Multiple hardness scales: Converts readings into commonly used hardness scales for compatible materials.
  • Measurement performance: Specified indication error of ±0.5% at HLD = 800 and repeatability of 0.8%.
  • USB rechargeable power: Built-in lithium battery supports workshop and field use.
  • Compact construction: Convenient for carrying between inspection locations.

Suitable Materials

The PLH-150 supports hardness testing of steel and cast steel, alloy tool steel, stainless steel, gray cast iron, ductile cast iron, cast aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, pure copper and forged steel. Available hardness conversions depend on the selected material.

Typical Applications

The PLH-150 is suited to large or sufficiently thick and rigid metal components that are difficult to move to a benchtop tester. Applications include production inspection, incoming quality checks and maintenance testing of castings, forgings, gears, bearing components, shafts, molds, pressure vessel components, pipes, valve bodies and heavy machinery parts.

Reliable Leeb measurements depend on workpiece mass, thickness, rigidity and surface preparation. Thin, lightweight or unsupported parts may require additional support or a different hardness testing method.
