Choosing the Right Davis Weather Station

Weather Stations

When safety, productivity and accountability depend on the weather, generalized forecasts from TV or smartphone apps are not enough.
Conditions can vary dramatically from one site to the next and relying on non-local data can put people, equipment and schedules at risk. That's why many professionals turn to on-site weather stations. By capturing real-time, hyperlocal data exactly where work is happening, a weather station helps teams decide when it is safe to proceed, pause operations or document conditions behind critical decisions.

Davis Instruments offers a proven lineup of professional weather stations designed for everything from offices and campuses to demanding job sites. Two of the most popular options are the Vantage Vue and the Vantage Pro2. Both deliver accurate on-site data, but each is optimized for different needs.

Vantage Vue

Simple, reliable and cost-effective.

Installation is fast and straightforward, making it an excellent option for users who want professional-grade data without complexity.

The station is solar powered and wireless, eliminating the need for trenching cables or finding nearby power. Data can be viewed locally with a WeatherLink Console or sent to the WeatherLink cloud using a WeatherLink Live device, typically within a 1,000-foot range.

The Vantage Vue measures:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Dew point
  • Wind speed and direction
  • Wind chill and heat index
  • Barometric pressure
  • Rainfall and rain rate

For larger sites, the system can be expanded with up to seven additional wireless sensor transmitters, allowing you to monitor conditions such as temperature, wind or rainfall in specific areas of your operation.

The key trade-off is flexibility. The Vantage Vue is extremely reliable but it is not designed for extensive customization. If measurements like UV index, solar radiation or specialized ground conditions are essential to your work, you may want to look at a more advanced system.

Vantage Pro2
Built for demanding, professional applications.

It updates slightly faster than the Vantage Vue, making it a strong choice when near real-time decisions matter.

One major advantage is flexibility in sensor placement. The anemometer can be mounted separately from the rest of the sensor suite, making it easier to position for optimal wind measurements. Its AeroCone rain collector reduces debris buildup and splash-out, improving rainfall accuracy over long deployments.

In its standard configuration, the Vantage Pro2 monitors:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Dew point
  • Wind speed and direction
  • Wind chill and heat index
  • Barometric pressure
  • Rainfall and rain rate
  • UV
  • Solar radiation

Like the Vantage Vue, the system can be expanded with additional transmitters, allowing a single installation to collect more than 30 environmental and weather parameters.

The Vantage Pro2 is available in wireless solar-powered versions or in a cabled configuration for locations where uninterrupted operation is essential. Sensors are protected by a passive radiation shield, with an optional 24-hour fan-aspirated shield for long-term use in hot climates.

If your monitoring needs go beyond basic weather or require the highest quality data as quickly as possible, the Vantage Pro2 is built for that role.

Which Davis weather station is right for you?

Both the Vantage Vue and Vantage Pro2 deliver accurate, dependable weather data and represent excellent long-term investments. The right choice comes down to how and where you plan to use the station.

Choose the Vantage Vue if you want an easy-to-install, affordable solution for offices, facilities or job sites that need reliable weather data with minimal setup.

Choose the Vantage Pro2 if you require maximum flexibility, faster data updates or expanded measurements for demanding professional or industrial applications.

By matching the station to your operational needs, you ensure safer decisions, better documentation and greater confidence in every weather-dependent task.
